In 1996, our founder Matt began his career in senior care — and over the next 30 years, he worked in nearly every setting the industry has to offer: skilled nursing, assisted living, memory care, and home care. Across three decades and thousands of families, he developed a rare, firsthand understanding of how aging unfolds, what families need most, and where the system consistently falls short.
What Matt kept seeing was the same painful pattern, repeated over and over: families in crisis — overwhelmed, exhausted, and unaware that keeping their loved one safely at home was even an option. Too many seniors were moved into facilities not because it was the right choice, but because no one ever told the family there was another way. That reality frustrated Matt deeply — and ultimately, it drove him to act.
Here in the Portland metro area alone, more than 115,000 adults over 65 and their families are navigating these decisions right now — many without a trusted guide, and many never realizing that staying home is within reach. Matt started Wayfinder Care Company to be that guide: to meet families where they are, help them understand every option, and deliver the quality of care that makes staying home not just possible — but the right choice
